April 15, 2000: Raytone Recordings 10 song cd, "bitter little dutchboy":
| The first two tracks on the record (Alternative Barbie &
Star) were done at home on a 4-track sony mini disc home studio while the rest of the
record was recorded at Zippah Recording Studios in Brookline, Ma. Having home recordings
on the record was the idea of the late Mark Sandman from Morphine. He told me on each of
his records he did two or three songs on a 8-track cassette home studio (which includes
the title track of the "Like Swimming" record), that If I didn't have the money
to finish the record in a studio...do it at home! He was just starting the sessions of
Morphine's last record "The Night" at his home in Cambridge, MA. He also liked
my "Cameron Diaz" song. He phoned once and said, "Ray, I like the song-What
was your inspiration...Lust?". I was blown away by his death and I will never
forget him. The record also includes "Kat" from the Wicked Disc single and
a remake of the B-Side "Deluxe". The musicians on the record are as
follows: Five of the songs were recorded by drummer Jason Sutter and myself (Kat, Deluxe,
She's a Freak, Wasting Time and Velvet g). Drummer Steve Scully played on
"Alternative Barbie" and "Super Wicked!". Drummer Milo
Beuller played on "Cameron Diaz" and "Taxi Song". Joe Sac played bass
on "Super Wicked!", "She's a Freak" and the remake of
"Deluxe". Zippah Recording's Pete Weiss played bass on "Cameron
Diaz". I do the vocals and play the guitars on all the tracks and play bass on
"Alternative Barbie", "Star", Taxi Song", "Wasting
Time" and "Velvet g" and play drums on "Star".

1996: Wicked Disc 7" Single, featuring
"Deluxe/Kat".
| This is the single that got the band airplay in Boston. It
was released by the Boston/New England record store chain Newbury Comics indie label,
Wicked Disc. It has the original version of "Deluxe". The single was a
blast to record. Jason Sutter & Joe Klompus from Jack Drag played on the songs. Jason
got on the drums and we nailed both songs in one or two takes. I was amazed by this
because we never played together before. Then Joe came in and laid down the bass (with me
over his shoulder yelling out the chord changes). After the release of the single,
Jason Sutter & I went back into Zippah to record more songs and to remake
"Deluxe". We added a middle section and cut out a verse. I kinda like this
version better then the one on the record...The idea for the single was that the song
"Kat" was about my girlfriend leaving me and us having no contact at all. The
name Kat is from the girl from the Real World cast from London. The song started as a
reference of my ex-girlfriend as a Cat. It really sucked...soooo while I was watching the
Real World, it hit me to turn the song around. The song is not about Kat-I just borrowed
her name...The flip side of the single "Deluxe" is about wanting to see her
again and getting all sorts of yummy together when we did...wishful thinking as it turned
out in the end. "Kat" got airplay in Boston and landed us in the Boston
WFNX/Molson Polar Beach Party Challenge. It was wild seeing people singing along with
"Kat" at the Beach Party Challenge shows-they'd heard it on WFNX for a few
weeks. |

1997: WFNX/Molson Polar Beach Party Challenge compilation,
featuring "Kat".
This disc was pressed for the
Challenge to be given out at the shows. It was never on sale in stores. It features one
song from each band who was in the battle. We were defeated in the finals by Babaloo
(the eight piece punk mambo band) at the Paradise on Commonwealth Avenue in Boston. They
won a trip to Churchill, Canada to be on a bill with Candelbox...Now I ask you-Who REALLY
won? Rivers Cuomo from Weezer closed the show and he was awesome! He played a lot of new
songs and a few Weezer tunes. Very cool.
